Job Description

VeeRteq Solutions Inc. offers a hybrid, Chicago-based role for an experienced data engineering professional who wants to build and optimize scalable cloud data platforms. You will work on enterprise analytics and data warehousing initiatives using modern Azure and Databricks capabilities, with opportunities to collaborate across development, BI, and stakeholder teams. The position is hybrid in Chicago, IL (3 days work from office) , and relocation to Chicago from day 1 is required.

What you’ll do

• Design, develop, and maintain complex SQL Server and Azure SQL database systems.
• Write and optimize advanced T-SQL including queries, stored procedures, functions, and views .
• Improve performance through query tuning , indexing strategies , and optimization for large-scale datasets.
• Apply best practices for database security , data integrity , and reliability .
• Develop and manage data solutions in Azure SQL Database and support cloud-based data architectures, including hybrid environments .
• Partner with teams to build relational and dimensional data models for analytics and enterprise data platforms.
• Implement Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD) and other data warehousing patterns.
• Support ETL/ELT processes and collaborate with data engineering teams on delivery.
• Use Databricks (Apache Spark) for data transformations, analytics, and large-scale data processing .
• Integrate Azure SQL with Databricks using Delta Lake , Spark SQL , and PySpark/SQL where applicable.
• Troubleshoot production issues and provide root cause analysis .

How you’ll work with the team

• Collaborate with application developers , data engineers , BI teams , and stakeholders to understand data requirements.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to junior developers.
• Participate in code reviews and help enforce database development standards .

What you bring

• 8+ years of experience as a Database Developer or similar role.
• Strong expertise in SQL Server and Azure SQL .
• Advanced proficiency in T-SQL , including performance tuning and query optimization .
• Hands-on experience with Databricks and Apache Spark .
• Strong understanding of data warehousing, dimensional modeling , and SCD .
• Experience working in Azure cloud environments .
• Strong analytical , problem-solving , and communication skills.

Education & certifications

An Engineering degree (BE/ME/BTech/MTech/BSc/MSc) is required. Technical certification in multiple technologies is desirable.
